Global Youth Service Day

Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) celebrates and mobilizes the millions of young people who improve their communities through service. Each April, YAC organizes and implements service projects to celebrate young people working together with non-profits, other youth organizations, schools, and national service programs.

For GYSD 2016, YAC completed a project called PACK’ed (Prepared, Assembled by Caring Kids) by YAC. On April 20, 2016, YAC engaged in direct serivce activities benefiting IM Kids 3rd Meal. IM Kids 3rd Meal provides nearly 500 ready to eat evening meals to children facing food insecurity in Ionia and Montcalm counties. Our YAC students were put into groups and then completed stations; making trail mix, balling melons, repackaging snack foods, decorating bags, making sandwiches, and packing meals at the IM Kids facility. Prior to our direct service day, YAC members collected food items at their individual schools to bring as a donation to IM Kids 3rd Meal.
